In Spring 2014, Oklahoma City will get its first true professional soccer club. That club will be named the Oklahoma City Energy FC. Oklahoma City Energy is a part of the highly respected USL PRO division. USL’s PRO division is the strongest, best operated and most experienced North American men’s professional soccer league outside of MLS. The league not only serves as a springboard to the MLS for players, but also for franchises. Four of the last five clubs to enter MLS have moved up from the USL’s top professional division, including teams in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland and Montreal. Plans for the Oklahoma City Energy stadium are already underway with an initial plan for a 7,000 person capacity stadium with plans to expand to 20,000 in the future, the minimum stadium size for an MLS club. Until the stadium is complete, Energy FC will make its home at Oklahoma City’s Bishop McGuinness High School.
