Unlike other branches of military service the National Guard is comprised of Citizen-Soldiers, men and women who lead civilian lives until they are called to serve by their nation, state or community. When they are not needed, Citizen-Soldiers live their ordinary lives working or attending college while putting on their uniforms once a month and two weeks a year to train for when they are called to serve.
