Make-A-Wish® Greater Bay Area was founded in 1984. In its first year, a total of 27 wishes were granted. Now one of the largest chapters nationwide, our chapter has granted 6,000 wishes to date and grants over 340 wishes per year. While we follow the policies and guidelines of Make-A-Wish® America, the Greater Bay Area chapter operates as a separate 501(c)3 organization. All funds raised by our chapter are used to fulfill our mission in the Bay Area. Make-A-Wish® traces its beginning to one boy’s wish to be a police officer, and to date, more than 220,000 wishes have been granted to children with life-threatening medical conditions in the United States and its territories. There are Make-A-Wish chapters serving all areas of the United States, as well as international affiliates spanning five continents. Each chapter is responsible for granting wishes for eligible children within its designated geographic area and for raising the funds to fulfill those wishes.
Walk For Wishes is a family-friendly fundraiser that is a moderately easy and both wheelchair and stroller-friendly. Including fun activities and entertainment, with a focus on wishes and wish kids.
